'One of a kind': calls to protect Alabama's 60,000-year-old underwater forest

The Guardian published an article on January 20, 2021 about the effort to make the Alabama Underwater Forest a National Marine Sanctuary. A bill was introduced to Congress last year and hopefully that bill will move forward in the new congress. Dr. Kristine DeLong leads a team of LSU researchers and students working on the site since 2012 and for the next three years. The team is planning to conduct fieldwork this May with support from the LSU Coastal Studies Institute and LUMCON.
