WELCOMING THE OTHER: A Conference in Honor of Cecil Eubanks
April 30-May 1, 2021
This conference will honor Cecil Eubanks on the occasion of his retirement after more than fifty years teaching political science at Louisiana State University. [See our press release here.] There will be two sessions, one on Friday evening, April 30, beginning at 5:00 pm, the other on Saturday morning, May 1. Both will be held in the Sternberg Salon of the French House/ Ogden Honors College. Because of covid restrictions at LSU, in-person attendance is limited to 45 people, and masks must be worn; we will stream both sessions live via Zoom. FRIDAY, APRIL 30, 5:00 pm — KEYNOTE SESSION
This session will begin with a keynote talk by Adelaide Russo, Phyllis M. Taylor Professor of French Studies at LSU, a long-time colleague and friend of Dr. Eubanks’, to be followed by testimonials from former students, and then formal presentation of the “Festschrift” written in Dr. Eubanks’ honor by scholars who earned their PhD’s under his direction, Welcoming the Other: Student, Stranger, and Divine (Lexington Books, 2021). A dinner/reception will follow the session.
SATURDAY, MAY 1, 10:00 am — PANEL SESSION
LSU PhD students who studied with Dr. Eubanks will give presentations based on their current research.
