Graduate Students
Curricular requirements for PhD program
- At least 15 hours of course credit
- Dissertation research hours
- BASC 7000 (1) Methods of instruction in college life science laboratories
- BIOL 7921 (2) One entry research seminar (second year) and one exit (defense) seminar
- BIOL 7901/BIOL 7902 (4) Topic-oriented seminars
- Qualifying exam at end of first year (with committee consisting of major advisor and at least two members of the graduate faculty)
- General exam not later than end of third year (Dean's Representative appointed by the Graduate School to be added to committee).
- Teach at least one semester in the undergraduate program
- Defense/final exam – with at least one first author publication.

An individual development plan (IDP) is an excellent tool to explore career possibilities and set individual career goals.
