Graduate Students

Curricular requirements for PhD program

  • At least 15 hours of course credit
  • Dissertation research hours
  • BASC 7000 (1) Methods of instruction in college life science laboratories
  • BIOL 7921 (2) One entry research seminar (second year) and one exit (defense) seminar
  • BIOL 7901/BIOL 7902 (4) Topic-oriented seminars
  • Qualifying exam at end of first year (with committee consisting of major advisor and at least two members of the graduate faculty)
  • General exam not later than end of third year (Dean's Representative appointed by the Graduate School to be added to committee). Form Request for General Exam (link opens PDF document)
  • Teach at least one semester in the undergraduate program
