Sam Murillo presents slide on TEM imaging at CISIA conference.

June 12th, 2025: Sam Murillo Presented Research on WC-CoCr Coatings at CISIA Conference

Samantha Murillo, the undergraduate leading the atmospheric plasma spray research during Summer 2025, presented findings on the deposition of durable, wear resistant WC-CoCr coatings. She explained phase transformations and compositions of coatings determined through XRD, SEM, and TEM, as well as the development of a new Epoxy curing rig to enable the measurement of adhesion strength.

April 25th, 2025: Emma and Lina Presented Research on Complex Concentrated Alloys for Additive Friction Stir Deposition at LSU Discover Day

Emma and Lina presented their evaluation of the viability of NiCoCr and NiCoCu alloys for additive friction stir deposition by comparing predicted phase transformations with experimentally observed microstructures. Their analysis combined X-ray diffraction (XRD) to monitor phase evolution with backscattered electron (BSE) imaging and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) to assess compositional distribution and phase morphology.
