April 18th, 2026: Lina Named Among Top Three Presentations at the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Graduate Student Conference
Angelina Jorgenson presented her thesis research, which she successfully defended on March 2, at the Graduate Student Conference, earning recognition among the top three presentations out of 26.

April 18th, 2026: Ian and Raveen Awarded Best Undergraduate Poster(s) at the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Graduate Student Conference
Our two thermal spray freshmen, Ian Murillo and Raveen Gamage, collaborated to present the team's past, current, and future research in the realm of developing durable coating materials.

April 17th, 2026: Emma and Vipul awarded best poster presentations in the Advanced Microscopy and Analytical Core (AMAC) Open House Held at Louisiana State University

April 17th, 2026: Octavio & Abby Presented Posters at LSU Discover Day. Octavio was Listed as a Top-Scoring College of Engineering Student!
Octavio Combellas-Jaimes presented a poster on mechanical alloying of Cu-Ni-Ta-LiH Alloys for improved high-temperature mechanical properties, and Abigail Peck presented a poster on process optimization for plasma spraying titanium nitride coatings.

March 9th, 2026: Sam Presented Research to State Legislators!
Louisiana Undergraduate Research Association hosted Posters at the Capitol, which gives undergraduate students across Louisiana the chance to share their work with State Legislators and the public.

December 3rd, 2025: Thermal Spray Team Presented Posters at CISIA Conference
Sam Murillo, Abigal Peck, Vipul Jain, and Aranya Aumit Paul presented their current
research projects and developments in lab capabilities to industry partners.

November 8th, 2025: Emma & Abigail Presented at Louisiana Space Grant Consortium and LA NASA EPSCoR Annual Meeting
Emma McCarthy presented her poster on her research regarding lunar regolith, and Abigal
Peck gave a 30-minute talk outlining various activities for LaSPACE.

October 27th, 2025: Fahima Led Clean Room Workshop for FuSe2 Project
Fahima Shaon helped lead a cleanroom training workshop for researchers involved in the FuSe2 project, bringing together participants from multiple labs to learn about fabrication safety and processing techniques. The workshop provided hands-on experience with cleanroom operations and helped standardize procedures across the project’s interdisciplinary teams.

September 2025: Emma Declared President of Mechanical Engineering Graduate Student Association
Emma McCarthy kicked off her Ph.D. journey with an incredible milestone: serving as President of MEGSA! Her dedication to building connection and community has been integral to the EPIC Lab’s collaborative culture, and we can’t wait to see the impact of her leadership on graduate student engagement across the department.
