Coupled Physical-Biogeochemical Modeling

We develop models to simulate the nutrient and low-trophic level dynamics in the coastal ocean to understand the
health of ecosystem

Hypoxia – “Dead Zone”

Coupled physical-biogeochemical model

Bottom dissolved oxygen simulated using a coupled physical-biogeochemical model (Ou and Xue, under revision)

Machine Learning / AL / statistical model

A novel prediction model using state-of-the-art statistical techniques based on physical and biogeochemical data provided by a numerical model. The model can capture both the magnitude and onset of the annual hypoxia events.

Oil Spill at Deepwater Horizon Site

A regional ocean model was used to simulate the tracer field and help interpret its dispersion and temporal evolution.
