Graduate Student Hiring 2022-2023

The Technology Intensive Geospatial and Remote Sensing (TIGeRS) Lab

Department of Geography & Anthropology, Louisiana State University (LSU), Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Graduate assistantships are available at both the M.S. and Ph.D. levels for self-motivated individuals who have a passion for innovative research and are quick learners. Students will participate in coastal wetland die-off projects, learn to utilize multiple scale imagery for wetland assessment, and conduct field trips for drone studies and habitat classification.

Students will receive a tuition waiver and stipend through a standard 9-month teaching or research assistantship (20 hours/week). Students who participate in project-related summer research may receive an additional 3-month summer salary. Students will gain rich hands-on experience with cutting-edge research equipment, such as multiple drone models, terrestrial LiDAR, UAV LiDAR, RTK GPS, spectrometers, and UAV-borne multispectral and thermal sensors, in addition to opportunities to apply these technologies to various fields, including coastal land dynamics, wetland restoration, precision agriculture, environmental engineering, etc.

Qualifications:

Students with experience in remote sensing, drone operation, field data collection, GIS, geography, environmental science and engineering, or coastal and wetland studies are welcome to apply. Students with boat driving and towing experience are highly preferred for wetland field studies, but this is not required. Special preference will be given to candidates who:

· Are familiar with ARCGIS and ERDAS software for data processing and analysis

· Have training in remote sensing and GIS fundamentals

· Have field data collection experience and adequate physical health as well as an adaptable schedule to handle field trips

· Have published papers in peer-reviewed journals

· Have programing experience for image processing, such as using MATLAB and/or IDL
