About the PI

Dr. Fabiana Trindade da Silva is an Assistant Professor in the LSU Robert Reich School of Landscape Architecture. With a background in Architecture and Urbanism (B.Arch, M.Arch) and a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, her work blends design practice and environmental modeling. Her research focuses on sustainable infrastructure, ecosystem-based strategies, and cross-disciplinary design methods.

About the Group

AXISD is a collaborative research group that brings together students and researchers interested in the role of design in tackling complex environmental challenges. With a foundation in systems thinking and interdisciplinary methods, the group explores how data, modeling, and site-specific analysis can inform more resilient, sustainable, and equitable landscapes.

We work across scales—from coastal regions to urban streetscapes—and across disciplines, integrating tools from environmental engineering, landscape architecture, and digital technologies. AXISD values iterative design processes, critical inquiry, and creative problem-solving grounded in real-world contexts.

As a space for applied research and student mentorship, the group supports projects that investigate storm surge modeling, air quality mitigation, digital twins for infrastructure planning, and nature-based solutions. Through workshops, fieldwork, and publications, AXISD contributes to a growing body of knowledge that connects performance-driven design with environmental modeling and infrastructure planning.
