The D4 Child Language Lab is located on the 4th floor of Hatcher Hall.

From Field House Drive, enter Hatcher Hall through doors closest to Hodges Hall, and you will see a stairwell (or a door to the stairwell). The lab is at the top of the stairs on your right. Visitors who park at the LSU bookstore or Visitor Center will likely enter Hatcher from Field House Drive.

From Powerhouse Lane (in case you want to first say hello to Mike the Tiger or view LSU’s football, basketball, and track areas), enter Hatcher Hall through the back doors that face the football stadium. Take the elevator to the 4th floor, follow the hallway to the front of the building, go through a closed EXIT door on your left, and you will be facing the lab!

Each year, the lab welcomes 5-6 undergraduate volunteers interested in gaining research experience. Students must commit at least 5 hours of work a week and be interested in presenting research at LSU's Discovery Day or another state/national conference. We also encourage students to use their lab time to complete an honor's project or as part of an independent research course their senior year. Our preferred start date is in August, but students can apply for a position at any time. If interested, please complete the following form to tell us about yourself.

I am happy to write students who earn a B or better a letter of recommendation for graduate school. If you desire a letter, please complete the information below and place in my LSU mailbox: Your picture, a draft of your purpose statement, a 1-2 page resume with most recent GRE, GPA, grade in my course, cell phone number, and email, and list of schools with due dates.  For schools that require paper forms and letters, please print and sign all forms and provide a stamped, addressed envelope to the school. I write letters between December 1 and 15 and again between January 20 – 30.

The D4 Child Language Lab studies children’s development of different dialects of English and childhood language impairments within these dialects. If you can speak a dialect of English that differs from General American English (in particular the many urban and rural dialects that are spoken in Louisiana), we would love your help. We need audio recordings of different dialects for experiments as well as adult judgments about our experimental stimuli. If willing to be contacted, please complete the following form.
