Principal Investigator
Dr. Debnath Maji
Dr. Maji earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electronics and Electrical
Communication Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and
his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. He is currently
a tenure-track Assistant Professor at Louisiana State University. His expertise lies
in developing in-vitro diagnostic sensors at the intersection of electrical, mechanical,
and biomedical engineering. His Ph.D. research produced a miniaturized platform for
assessing hemostasis from a single drop of blood, and he later worked on Point-of-Care
devices for bleeding disorders at Coagulation Sciences. At RenBio, he worked on advancing
a platform that uses electroporation and plasmid DNA to produce therapeutic proteins
in vivo. Dr. Maji’s work focuses on affordable diagnostic devices and innovative gene
therapy solutions, with the goal of shifting healthcare toward early detection and
prevention

Jithin Thomas ChackoJithin joined the EDIT Lab at Louisiana State University as graduate student in Biological and Agricultural Engineering starting the Fall 2025 semester. Originally from Kerala, India, he completed his BSc in Chemistry at Kerala University, India, followed by an MSc in Biopolymer Science from Cochin University of Science and Technology. After graduation, Jithin spent time at the Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad, India working on two-dimensional materials and electrochemical sensors as a research assistant. AT LSU, Jithin's research in the EDIT Lab centers on creating advanced electrochemical biosensors using nanomaterials, with applications in medical diagnostics for blood disorders and inflammation detection. His work aims to advance point-of-care technologies for sensitive biomarker detection and improved patient care. |

Brody CalamusaI am from New Orleans and majoring in Biological Engineering, with plans to attend graduate school and build a career in research. My time in the lab has provided valuable hands-on experience with the research process, from designing experiments to analyzing data. Through this work, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of how scientific studies are planned, executed, and refined, as well as the persistence and teamwork required to move a project forward. |
