Lab Overview
The Exercise Physiology Labs at LSU are an active research hub within the School of Kinesiology, where faculty and graduate students explore how exercise and physical activity influence human health, performance, and resilience across the lifespan. Research conducted in these labs targets a wide range of populations including athletes, older adults, military personnel, and clinical populations.
While the labs are listed individually on our website, these names reflect focused research groups rather than separate physical spaces. In practice, investigators work collaboratively across shared laboratory areas depending on the needs of each study. Our research environment includes two wet labs (biochemistry and cell culture), a phlebotomy lab, a body composition lab, an environmental chamber, a walk-in cold room, a dedicated exercise training space, and multiple multi-use procedure rooms.
The lab team is composed primarily of master’s and doctoral students, faculty principal investigators, and support staff. Select undergraduate volunteers also contribute to ongoing research after completing training and demonstrating strong initiative. Our researchers are supported by cutting-edge equipment such as flow cytometers, high-resolution oxygraphs, and ample long-term biospecimen storage.
Funded by agencies such as the NIH and NASA, the Exercise Physiology Labs are committed to producing high-impact research that informs both clinical and performance-based practices.
