Clinical Training
Students obtain clinical experience at off-site addiction treatment centers, such as Woodlake Addiction Recovery Center and St. Christopher's Addiction Wellness Center. At these locations students provide assessment services and group and individual, evidence-based therapy to inpatients and outpatients with a variety of substance use disorders and comorbid affective and anxiety disorders. Woodlake and St. Christopher’s are large treatment centers that offer medically-assisted detox, residential treatment, and intensive outpatient treatment, and students work as part of a multidisciplinary team of providers. Students also gain assessment and experience at Frey Psychology and neuropsychology experience at the NeuroMedical Center. Students may also see clients at the LSU Psychological Services Center (PSC) where they offer evidence-based therapy to adults from the LSU and Baton Rouge community. Students are required to take at least one year of clinical practicum (typically in the 3rd year of the training program) under the supervision of another clinical faculty member. Most of my students complete this "off-year" within the Adult Clinical tract, for example in Neuropsychology with Dr. Calamia.
