Jun's academic training combines hydrology, soil science and forest science. Over the past 26 years, he has been involved in 60+ research projects. Geographically, these projects were conducted in North America, West Europe, and Southeast Asia. In terms of climate gradients, the study sites crossed regions from tropics to tundra environments. With respect to geomorphological features, the research subjects spanned from rugged terrains to fluvial floodplains, backwater swamps, and coastal estuaries and wetlands. These projects investigated a variety of topics including soil water movement, chemistry, stream/river/watershed hydrology, riverine sediment and nutrient transport, forest management effects on physical, chemical and biological conditions in headwaters, fluvial geomorphology, and applications of spatial and isotopic techniques in hydrology and aquatic biogeochemistry.
