Welcome to LSU MIND, the Multidisciplinary Initiative for Neuroscience Discovery at
Louisiana State University.
Neuroscience addresses fundamental questions about the organization and function of
the nervous system, including how the brain changes with development, experience,
injury, and disease. By bringing together researchers across disciplines, LSU MIND
works to advance our understanding of these processes and their implications for behavior,
health, and neurological function.
Our mission is to coordinate and strengthen neuroscience research, training, and community
outreach opportunities at LSU.

Third Annual Baton Rouge Neuroscience Symposium
On April 10, 2026, the Baton Rouge Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience held its third annual Baton Rouge Neuroscience Symposium at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. The chapter was reactivated in 2024 by MIND member Dr. Alexander Murashov (Veterinary Medicine), and MIND Executive Committee member Dr. Melissa Beck (Psychology) currently serves as President.
The 2026 meeting brought together nearly 200 participants from institutions across Louisiana, reflecting the continued growth of the region’s neuroscience community. Faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduate students shared their research through oral presentations and poster sessions. Ten LSU MIND faculty members contributed to 15 research presentations at the symposium, including faculty and graduate oral presentations and student posters.
The symposium featured a keynote lecture by Jeff G. Tasker, Catherine and Hunter Pierson Chair in Neuroscience at Tulane University, whose presentation focused on neuromodulatory regulation of stress-related neural circuits.
