We are excited to share that Dr. Duan has received a National Science Foundation EPSCoR Research Fellows to support our research on extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) in E. coli biofilm. The project will apply advanced solid-state NMR and DNP techniques to reveal molecular details of EPS, explain how its components give biofilms resilience, and inform strategies to treat biofilm-related infections.

Fantastic experience at ASM Biofilm conference at Portland. Overwhelmed by microbiological terminologies (in a good way), found exciting science and a lot of collaborative opportunities. Most importantly, delicious food and beautiful scenes at downtown Portland!

Image of a Rugose E.coli WT Biofilm on Yesca Media. Biofilm. Bacteria within a biofilm are embedded in a dense extracellular
matrix (ECM) composed of several macromolecules, including exopolysaccharides, nucleic acids, and proteins. Our group is interested on researching the biofilm with the help of ssNMR. Do not hesitate to contact if you are interested in Biofilm or ssNMR.
