Society for Neuroscience Baton Rouge Chapter Annual Meeting

The inaugural annual symposium meeting of the reactivated Society for Neuroscience Baton Rouge Chapter took place on March 8, 2024 at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center Conference Center in Baton Rouge. The meeting program can be downloaded here: Download the program.

The event was attended by 126 participants. It was a diverse group of participants from various departments and schools, including faculty, staff, undergraduates, graduates, and postdocs from LSU Baton Rouge, PBRC, HRSA/NHDP, Southern University, LSU New Orleans, Tulane, and Xavier University. There were six morning and six afternoon oral presentations by students, postdocs, and junior faculty, and 36 poster presentations.

The symposium began with inspiring opening remarks by Oliver Garden, the dean of the Veterinary School, followed by an extraordinary keynote address given by Nicolas Bazan, Boyd Professor and director of the Neuroscience Center for Excellence at LSU Health in New Orleans. His lecture featured cutting-edge data and deep philosophical insights.

The symposium concluded with an award ceremony, during which Brianna Cairney, a graduate student in the Department of Psychology, received the best oral presentation award, and Ignitus Lim, a graduate student in Comparative Biomedical Sciences at the Vet School, received the best poster award.

The success of the event would not have been possible without the hard work of the Neuroscience Chapter council and the support of the Veterinary School, LSU Foundation, and vendors such as VWR, Nikon, and ACD. Thank you all for your contributions!
