Issues

Since its founding in 1915, the AAUP’s purpose is to advance academic freedom and shared governance, to define fundamental professional values and standards for higher education, and to ensure higher education’s contribution to the common good.

Policy Statements on faculty hiring, evaluation, promotion, and tenure.

After many years of discussion, two new Policy Statements on faculty hiring, evaluation, promotion, and tenure became effective on August 17, 2009. They are PS-36-NT for non-tenure-track faculty and PS-36-T for tenured and tenure-track faculty. See also the annotated version of PS-36-T produced by Carruth McGehee, long-time Faculty Senator and member of the FS committee producing both PS.

The LSU Faculty Senate maintains an archive of documents reflecting see a fairly comprehensive history (2004-2007) of many revisions to the new PS-36 documents, as well as a comprehensive history of the Senate’s efforts (1999-2006) to get the administration to retract or replace PM-35 and PS-109 (= the PS-36 Addendum).
